How Lil Peep’s Tragic Death Still Resonates To This Day

Nov. 15, 2023, marks six years since the tragic death of rapper Lil Peep, who died at the age of 21 in 2017. The death of Lil Peep shocked the music industry and exposed a concerning pattern of drug overdoses among artists and other public figures. 

R.I.P Lil Peep

Lil Peep passed away from an accidental overdose of Fentanyl and Xanax. After his death, toxicology tests revealed the presence of cannabis, cocaine, and the painkiller Tramadol in his system. 

Urine tests further indicated the existence of several potent opioids, including hydrocodone, hydromorphone (Dilaudid), oxycodone, and oxymorphone. Notably, there was no alcohol detected in his system.

Since then, the industry has mourned the loss of influential figures like Mac Miller, Juice WRLD, and, more recently, Angus Cloud. Here are some of the most tragic losses following Lil Peep’s death that resulted in a drug overdose:

Mac Miller

Mac Miller, the most influential rapper, fell victim to drug addiction. On September 7, 2018, Miller died from a toxic combination of fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol at the age of 26. 

Juice WRLD

Juice WRLD, prominent for his resurgence of “emo rap,” also succumbed to drug addiction. His death was caused by an oxycodone and codeine overdose, where he passed away at the age of 21, on December 8, 2019. 

Lexi Alijae

Lexi Alijae, an emerging artist and the granddaughter of funk band Zapp‘s founder, Roger Troutman, tragically passed away at 21 years old from an accidental overdose of fentanyl and ethanol (alcohol) on January 1, 2020.

Shock G

Shock G, a member of the legendary hip-hop group Digital Underground, passed away at the age of 57, from an accidental overdose of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and alcohol on April 22, 2021.

Michael K. Williams

Michael K. Williams, known for his roles in The Wire and Lovecraft Country, fell victim to a drug overdose. Williams, aged 54, died from a heroin laced with fentanyl on September 6, 2021. The drug dealer who sold Williams the drugs is now facing up to 10 years in prison following the actor’s death. 

Coolio

Coolio, the iconic rapper behind “Gangsta’s Paradise,” lost his life at 59 due to an accidental overdose of fentanyl, heroin, and methamphetamine on September 22, 2022. 

Big Scarr

Emerging hip-hop artist Big Scarr, who was signed to Gucci Mane’s label, succumbed to an accidental prescription drug overdose at just 22 years old on December 22, 2022. 

Gangsta Boo

Gangsta Boo, a prominent member of Three Six Mafia, met a similar fate. Her accidental overdose involving fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol at the age of 43 on January 1, 2023. 

Angus Cloud

Angus Cloud, known for portraying Fezco in the popular series Euphoria, tragically passed away at 25. Cloud was found at his family’s residence in Oakland, California, and was pronounced dead upon arrival. 

His final days were marked by grief over the recent loss of his father. Angus died of a fatal combination of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and benzodiazepines. The actor departed on July 31, 2023, just 21 days after celebrating his birthday on July 10.

Nicki Minaj Opens Up About Her Past Percocet Addiction

As the industry continues to grapple with the devastating impact of drug overdoses, artists are now beginning to speak out about their own struggles with substance abuse. Rapper Nicki Minaj recently opened up about her addiction to Percocet, where she revealed her struggle with the addictive prescription drug.
