by | May 25, 2026

Road fatalities have gone past the 100 mark, reaching 105 as of May 22, according to the latest crash statistics released by the Island Traffic Authority (ITA).

Despite reaching triple figures, the ITA is reporting a significant 28 per cent reduction or 41 fewer fatalities this year when compared to the similar period in 2025.

The fatalities have resulted from 94 fatal crashes, which are also down 28 per cent.

Motorcyclists have accounted for 25, or 24 per cent of the fatalities since the start of the year; private motor vehicle drivers accounted for 22, or 21 per cent; private motor vehicle passengers accounted for 18 or 17 per cent; and pedalcyclists accounted for five, or five per cent of fatalities since January 1.
Vulnerable road users – pedestrians, pedalcyclists, motorcyclists and pillion passengers combined – accounted for 57 per cent of all fatalities.

Meanwhile, males and females accounted for 84 per cent and 16 per cent respectively of all fatalities since the start of the year.
