The local cricketing fraternity is mourning the sudden death of Alvinaus “Mushy” Simon, who passed away in his sleep on Friday morning. He died just a month shy of his 33rd birthday.
The talented off-spinner and middle-order batsman represented his home community of Choiseul in the Prime Minister’s Cup and the Saint Lucia Premier League (SPL), helping his teams reach the finals of both competitions this year.
In a post on its official social media pages, Cricket Saint Lucia remembered Simon as “quiet and unassuming” and said he “allowed his cricket to speak for him”.
A former student of Piaye Secondary School and member of the Class of 2010, the Balca, Choiseul native also represented Saint Lucia at the Under-15 and Under-19 levels, and was a familiar name in local cricket for more than a decade.
Outside cricket, he worked as a Business Development Officer at the Ministry of Commerce.
